  64. 1: How can I install OS/2 Warp on my system with EZ-Drive?
  65.  
  66. To install OS/2 Warp on your machine, you must setup the drive with
  67. EZ-Drive 4.02 or later. You must also correctly boot from the OS/2
  68. installation disk. To boot correctly from the floppy diskette, boot from
  69. the hard drive, Hold down the Control Key when the message "Hold down
  70. Ctrl-key to boot from floppy..." appears on the screen. Insert the OS/2
  71. installation diskette into the floppy drive and press Enter.

  73. 2: Is EZ-Drive compatible with Local Bus IDE controller cards?
  74.  
  75. Extensive testing has revealed the following compatibility issues for
  76. various Local Bus IDE controllers:
  77.  
  78. If your controller uses one of the chips listed below, then follow the
  79. directions provided:
  80.  
  81. Appian ADI2 - Fully Compatible. HVLIDE.SYS is fully compatible with
  82. EZ-Drive. ADI2C143.SYS is also fully compatible with EZ-Drive. Install your
  83. drive with EZ-Drive and then install one of these drivers into your
  84. CONFIG.SYS.
  85.  
  86. CMD640x - Fully Compatible. CMD640X.SYS is fully compatible with EZ-Drive.
  87. Install your drive with EZ-Drive and then install the driver into your
  88. CONFIG.SYS.
  89.  
  90. PC Tech RZ1000 - Not Supported. ZEOS/Phoenix BIOS does not need EZ-Drive as
  91. it natively supports large drives. If EZ-Drive sets up a large drive, it
  92. will take over from the BIOS and the drive will be slower than BIOS
  93. support. Recommend setting up drive through BIOS and not EZ-Drive.
  94.  
  95. Opti 611A & 621A - Not Supported by any product or hardware. OPTIVIC.SYS
  96. (dated 5-11-94) is incompatible with large drives both with and without
  97. EZ-Drive. An updated driver is under development by Opti.
  98.  
  99. 3: My keyboard or mouse does not function normally after exiting Windows on
  100. a drive installed using EZ-Drive. Are there any known issues?
  101.  
  102. We have determined this to be caused by the installation of a mouse driver.
  103. This changes a line in the System.ini file to
  104. Keyboard=C:\MOUSE\mousevkd.386. To remedy the problem, change the line in
  105. the SYSTEM.INI file back to Keyboard=*vkd.
  106.  
  107. 4: QEMM 7.5 will not load in Stealth Mode. What can I do?
  108.  
  109. Add the switch XSTI=76 to the QEMM line in the Config.sys file.
  110.  
  111. 5: Windows crashes with EZ-Drive installed on my drive. My system ROM BIOS
  112. is the Award BIOS version 4.50G. Are there any updates?
  113.  
  114. Download EZPCH502.EXE from MicroHouse BBS at (303) 443-9957. This file is a
  115. self extracting file that contains instructions to update the EZ-Drive MBR.
  116.  
  117. 6: How do I remove the EZ-Drive Master Boot Record(MBR)?
  118.  
  119. The MBR cannot be altered if the computer boots from the EZ-Drive MBR.
  120. Insert the bootable floppy disk into drive A: and restart the computer.
  121. Ensure the BIOS does not have MBR virus protection enabled and the boot
  122. sequence searches for the floppy drive first. Run the command FDISK /MBR.
  123.  
  124. WARNING: If the hard drive was setup with a Custom Drive Type, access to
  125. the data on the drive will be lost. Thus, backup the data before performing
  126. these procedures.

  128. 7: My system displays the message: "No IDE Drive Installed Messages." What
  129. does this mean?
  130.  
  131. Normally, EZ-Drive identifies an IDE drive with nothing set in the BIOS.
  132. Occasionally, EZ-Drive reports No IDE Drives Installed when a drive is
  133. present. If CMOS has no values for the drive, it may inhibit the EZ-Drive
  134. setup. In most cases, simply run the auto-detect feature of the BIOS before
  135. running EZ-Drive. Another possibility is to set the heads, cylinders, and
  136. sectors per track in the User Definable Type of the BIOS.

  138. 8: How do I Remove EZ-Drive in a system with LBA option available in the
  139. ROM BIOS?
  140.  
  141. Note: This process requires EZ-Drive 5.00 or later
  142. - Insert the EZ-Drive diskette
  143. - Run EZ
  144. - Pick Change Installed features
  145. - ENABLE Windows NT Compatibility Mode for 5.00
  146.

  158. - If all drives/directories are accessible, run the command FDISK/MBR to

  160. - If all drives/directories are NOT accessible, the BIOS LBA translation is
  161. different from the translation EZ-Drive used
  162. - In this case, the data must be backed up before proceeding
  163. - Boot directly from floppy, run Fdisk /MBR, re-partition and format the
  164. drive using Fdisk and Format, then restore your data

  166. 9: I keep getting the message "Hold down the CTRL key..." . What is causing
  167. this?
  168.  
  169. Every occurrence of this has been found to be a system infected with the
  170. "Ripper" virus.
  171.  
  172. Note: This process requires EZ-Drive 5.00 or later.

  186. 10: My system hangs after booting directly from non-system disk. What can I
  187. do?

  189. User turns on the machine with a diskette in the floppy drive that does not
  190. contain bootable system files. The message "NON SYSTEM DISK or DISK ERROR"
  191. is displayed on the screen. Noticing the error, the user removes the floppy
  192. and re-boots the system. Now it hangs and will not boot. All cases of this
  193. error have been linked to the ANTIEXE virus.

  210. 11: What is the message "Unrecognized DBR"  from EZ-Drive?
  211.  
  212. User receives a message that EZ-Drive has encountered an unrecognized DBR
  213. and prompts the user whether they want to transfer it anyway. This is a
  214. feedback message to prepare the user if the hard drive does not boot
  215. properly after setup. An unrecognized DBR message may mean that the DBR on
  216. the floppy diskette has been corrupted or simply is not one that is easily
  217. recognized by the program. Such as, a language specific version of DOS. If
  218. the DBR is on a bootable floppy someone has created, the first
  219. recommendation is to abort the process and re-SYS the diskette. If the DBR
  220. is on a DOS diskette like DOS Disk1, answer yes to complete the transfer.
  221. If the hard drive does not boot with an NON-SYSTEM DISK ERROR, Reset the
  222. system and hold down the key when prompted. Insert a bootable floppy when
  223. prompted and press to get to an A: prompt. Then SYS the hard drive to
  224. transfer the bootable files. At that point, the hard drive should be able
  225. to boot without any problems.

  227. 12: Does MH32BIT.386 support DMA type "f" or Block mode?
  228.  
  229. No. It does not.
  230.  
  231. 13: Why does the setup routine only run from Windows?
  232.  
  233. "Setup" is used to install MH32BIT.386 for Windows 3.1x only. It replaces
  234. *WDCTRL or WDCDRV.386 in SYSTEM.INI with MH32BIT.386.

  236. 14: Where does EZ-Drive write its code on the hard drive?
  237.  
  238. Sector 1 : Boot Loader MBR..
  239. Sector 2 : Regular MBR which is executed after EZ-Drive loads.
  240. Sector 3-17 : EZ-Drive Int 13 Handler.

  242. 15: Why should I use EZ-Drive?

  244. EZ-Drive provides large drive support for older BIOS. It makes drive
  245. installation a quick and effortless process. It also works around problems
  246. with BIOS that hang on drives larger than 2.1GB.

  262. Neither, It is physically loaded at the top of conventional memory but is
  263. not included in either the Conventional or Upper Memory Control Block
  264. chains.

  266. 20: Will EZ-Drive allow partitions over 2.1GB, and can they be made
  267. bootable?

  269. No. This is a limitation of the FAT file system.

  271. 21: Does MH32Bit.386 work with Windows 95?

  273. It could but it should be removed (commented out) of System.ini if
  274. upgrading from Windows 3.11 to Windows 95. Windows 95 contains built-in
  275. support for all EZ-Drive enhancements.

  277. 22: What happens to the drive letters if I use EZ-Drive on a extended
  278. partition?
  279.  
  280. You would encounter the same behavior as DOS Fdisk.

  282. 23: Does EZ-Drive work with other operating system such as OS/2, UNIX etc.?

  284. Yes, EZ-Drive works with OS/2 and Windows NT, however its behavior in UNIX
  285. environment is unknown.

  287. 24: How does EZ-Drive work with a drive using Disk Manager?

  289. EZ-Drive converts the Disk Manager partitions to EZ-Drive partition.

  294. No, it converts Disk Manager partitions to EZ-Drive partitions.

  298. If EZ-Drive is uninstalled and the BIOS does not support large drives the
  299. data on the drive will not be properly accessible. If the BIOS does support
  300. large drives and it is set to the same parameters as EZ-Drive used to set
  301. up the drive then the data should be accessible.

  303. 27: How do I set the CMOS for my hard drive with EZ-Drive?
  304.  
  305. It does not matter with the exception that Drive 0 must be set to some CMOS
  306. type other than "None". However, Windows 95 will not take over primary
  307. adapter drives in protected mode if they are not set in the CMOS.

  310. formatted with EZ-Drive?

  312. No, there is no need to load a driver in the Config.sys to access your
  313. drive in the slave position.

  318. No it is not. This file is used by EZ-Drive to create the recovery floppy.
  319. It is the program put but onto the recovery floppy which actually restores
  320. the data onto track 0.

  322. 30: In Disk Manager, if the Alt-T (clear the first sectors on their drive)
  323. function was mistakenly envoked, it was possible to recover the data using
  324. the DDO recovery procedure. Will it be possible under EZ-Drive to recover
  325. data after using the command "Ezwipe.exe"?

  327. No, EZwipe will wipe the entire first cylinder and the all data will be
  328. totally destroyed.

  330. 31: Can I boot from a diskette or boot with EZ-Drive installed on my drive
  331. while running Windows 95?

  333. If the user boots a Windows 95 bootable diskette without loading the
  334. EZ-Drive BIOS extension drivers, the hard drive will not be accessible.
  335. Yes, the function of the EZ-Drive driver is to add to the BIOS that
  336. functionality which it lacks for supporting greater than 528 MB hard
  337. drives. Part of the job of the BIOS, or a driver such as EZ-Drive, is to
  338. report information about the hard drives to the operating system. This
  339. information (which is detailed in the Western Digital "Enhanced IDE

  355. regardless of the operating system.

  360. There will be no impact at all with a drive greater than 528 MB, unless the
